About Turmeric Pepper

Welcome to my blog where you’ll find nutritious Asian recipes.

Hello!

I’m Nudra-the writer, recipe creator, recipe tester, and photographer behind Turmeric Pepper. I live in Malaysia, also known as food paradise for foodies. I started cooking since I was a teenager, inspired by my mother, who involved me in the kitchen from an early age.

In 2018, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Psoriasis, followed by Psoriatic Arthritis a couple years later. Since then, I have been deeply immersed in reading and researching about antioxidant-rich whole foods and slowly incorporating them into my diet.

That has help tremendously reducing inflammation and manage flare-ups. This journey then led to the creation of this site.

About the Blog

I first created this website to journal nutritious recipes and what I have learned about antioxidant-rich foods and it’s potential health benefits. It has grown beyond just my personal recipe collection, but also a platform to share everyday nutritious Asian recipes.

What you will find on this website

  • Southeast Asian Recipes (Traditional, Authentic & some with a healthy twist)
  • Nutritious East Asian Recipes
  • Nutritious Asian Fusion Recipes
  • Mediterranean Inspired Recipes
  • Persian Recipes (Traditional, Authentic & some with a healthy twist)
  • Healthy food swap
  • Tips and How-To

My recipes are inspired by the flavors of my upbringing as well as from my new family (my husband side), rooted in family traditions, and adapted to be healthier.

Coming from Malay, Chinese, and Indonesian heritage, my recipes reflect the diverse flavors of Asia. I love incorporating anti-inflammatory ingredients like ginger, garlic, turmeric, lemongrass, scallions, and chili peppers, along with a blend of aromatic spices—not just for their bold flavors but also for their health benefits.

Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Recipes on Turmeric Pepper

As suggested by my doctor, I have also incorporated a Mediterranean diet. Introduced by Persian husband and his family from Iran.

Due to Iran’s proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the Silk Road history, they share many similar traditional foods, especially Greek and Turkish cuisine. The use of herbs, seasonings, and other ingredients in Persian food also mirrors the culinary practices found in other Mediterranean countries.

During seven years of knowing my husband and multiple long stays in his homeland, I got the privilege to learn Persian cuisine from my mother-in-law. Initially, I intended to bring his childhood foods to our home when we were abroad.

This assimilation of foods through our mixed marriage has brought me to create the recipes on this blog: The collection of Oriental Asian food that I grew up with, and Middle Eastern & Mediterranean food, which I have adapted from my husband’s side.

I hope these recipes will benefit anyone who wants to eat healthier, lose weight, or try to incorporate whole foods into everyday food. I am not a certified professional to advise what you can eat, so if you have any concerns regarding specific ingredients, please consult a doctor before trying them out. Thanks for stopping by!
