If you are looking for non-alcoholic holiday mocktails, festive drinks, or spiced drinks that are healthy-ish with a touch of dessert flavor, you will definitely love this non-alcoholic white mulled wine.
Why you will like this Non-Alcoholic White Mulled Wine
Made with 100% natural ingredients with no added sugar, this zero-alcohol white mulled wine is high in fiber, naturally sweet, and delicious.
You don’t need those fancy and overpriced, non-alcoholic wines to make this festive drink. Just some basic fruits, mulled spices, and a juicer. You can use a blender too!
I tested this recipe on my friends who quit alcohol, and they loved the taste and asked for the recipe. So, I thought I could make a blog post and share the recipe with whoever needs a simple mulled wine juice without alcohol.
This vanilla-infused mocktail combines sweet winter fruits with vanilla and spices. It is also a family-friendly drink to make during gatherings that kids will definitely love.
What makes this festive mocktail good
This drink is based on pure juice from fresh pears and green apples. There’s no water added, that way, you get a concentrated and sweet natural fruity flavor. But if you wish to add water, choose the sweetest and ripe pear.
Infused with vanilla seeds, crushed cardamom, cinnamon, and zesty lime peel, the flavor blend makes the drink taste like a delicious dessert.
Compared to the red version of non-alcoholic mulled wine, this version is lighter, highlighting the combination of vanilla and fruits.
I recently made pear butter after a supermarket haul of ripe pears that were marked down by 50%. It was such a score. The remaining pear led me to experiment with this mulled white wine. If you happen to have extra pears, do also check out my no-sugar pear butter recipe.
Potential health benefits?
You probably don’t think of this so much during the holiday because it only happens once a year. But why not have something delicious that might offer some health benefits, too?
Pears are a great fruit to make juice due to their high fiber content. 1 medium pear has more fiber than 1 banana and also more fiber than half a cup of boiled broccoli. Having a cup of pear juice can help with digestion, especially during the holiday season, when there can be a lot of delicious food to digest.
Note that the amount of fiber in the juice is different from the whole pear with the skin.
Green apples are a great source of vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamin C. They may not be very popular in a dessert, but to me, they add delicious flavor to mocktails or smoothies. Plus, it helps to add more greeny fiber to your diet that may give you that holiday glowing skin.
No doubt, pears and apples are both delicious, simple fruits packed with many health benefits. These fruits also boast potent anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Combining them with vanilla and traditional festive spices creates a flavorful digestive elixir.
Ingredients to make a sweet and sugar-free Non-Alcoholic White Mulled Wine
- Pears – I use Packham pear because of the aromatic and juicy pear flavor. Plus, it’s widely available where I stay. Any type would work, including Asian pear, but I also recommend using Bosc and Bartlett. Note that the more ripe they are, the sweeter your drink will be.
- Green apple – I use Granny Smith’s green apple. Green apples balance the sweetness of pears.
- Cardamom – Lightly crush the cardamom seeds to release their flavor.
- Vanilla Bean – As natural as it can be, whole vanilla beans are non-processed, which results in a deeper vanilla flavor. You can either use the seeds or keep the seeds for your dessert and use the pod.
- Lime Peel – This adds a hint of citrusy with some bitterness that mimics wine.
- Cinnamon stick – Use the whole spice, not the powdered version. They are not as fresh, and the powder will result in cloudy water drink.
How to make this Alcohol-Free White Mulled Wine
- Wash the fruits, cut them into wedges, and remove the seeds.
- Blend them in a juicer. If you use a blender, strain the fiber using a fine strainer or fine mesh cloth.
- Halve the vanilla bean by placing the tip of the knife at the top middle and slicing it downward along its length. Use the knife to scrape out the seeds.
- Transfer the juice to a medium-sized pot and gently simmer over low heat with the rest of the ingredients for 20 minutes.
- Turn off the heat. Strain the juice over a fine mesh cloth or coffee filter and serve while it is still warm.
Substitute to vanilla beans.
All natural vanilla paste – Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla paste instead of vanilla beans.
Useful tips
- To get a clearer color that closely resembles white wine, let it sit for at least a couple of hours on a kitchen counter and let the fiber sink. Once the top part gets clearer, gently pour it into another jar, leaving the bottom cloudy part out (I would drink this one in a sip) and reheat it again in the pot. You can also gently scoop out the clearer part with a ladle.
- Do not boil the mixture or cook it too long, as it can alter the flavor and the health benefits of the juice.
- Keep the skin on. That’s where the flavor and fiber reside and what makes it amber or golden in color.
